HAPPY 2012!!!

Monday, January 2, 2012

Heya,

We had fun in 2011. The Rabbit, fast and feisty, was a fine host and we enjoyed chasing this wily hare around the globe with our Archimedian cohort, EUREKA. Our 3rd LP has been a confident companion, fearless of the unbeaten path, but not too good for the map. It made for a smooth yet unpredictable itinerary which documented over 100 gigs for Mother Mother, and many more extrapolating experiences. While these adventures were elaborate and all consuming, they were also quite inspiring which let down the drawbridge of creativity to pastures of new imaginings. So we find ourselves swimming in a dark ocean of new songs which are perhaps less like the water itself and more like the Leviathan who will pull you under or eat your feet. This may sound macabre, but it’s just the mystery of the ocean floor, black as deadness where the ugly unnamed demersal exist amidst alien kelp and cloudy mire: Deeper than where moody fishies wag fins and certainly not where the rooster crows or the lion pounces. We’ve been to these places and down the rabbit hole too from which we’ve been smoked out by The Dragon’s fire. Here in the wake of a megalopolitan inferno, we gaze at the smouldering chrome and befallen machines, using sticks to swat away the snaky ghosts of flailing live wires. Here we greet the New Year. And the Unknown.

To the Mayans on down, happy 2012.

Love,
Mother Mother

Hit Er Miss Christmas – Free Download!!!

Thursday, December 15, 2011

As some of you may know, we performed an original yule tune called “Hit Er Miss Christmas” for the CBC Radio 3 ‘A Canadian Indie Christmas’ concert last week. We liked the song so much that we decided to go into the studio and record it as well, and in the spirit of the holiday season we want to give it away to you all! You can retrieve a free download of the song via the widget below. In exchange, you will need to enter your e-mail to join our mailing list, which isn’t at all a bad thing. In fact it’s another form of our giving to you! Giving of information. Important information such as when we’re coming to a town near you, or when our next record comes out! Anyway, we do hope you enjoy it. Happy holidays from our MM family to yours!

PS – if you don’t get the link to download in your e-mail inbox, check your junk mail.

I Want To Open For Mother Mother at the Commodore Ballroom Contest

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

****CONTEST CLOSED, THANK YOU TO ALL ACTS THAT ENTERED, CHECK BACK FOR A WINNER ON DEC 15!****

Calling all unsigned Vancouver artists! We are looking for a support act for our All Ages Matinee performance on December 30 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, so we thought why not open up our search to all of the fabulous local Vancouver talent and give one lucky act the opportunity to share the stage with us at this historic venue? Ryan talks more about it below:

If you wish to submit your act for consideration as support for this performance, do so at iwanttoopenformothermother@gmail.com starting December 5 at 9:00am PT until December 9 at 9:00pm PT.

What we want to see:
1) Link(s) to your 5 best songs (or link to a music player streaming your 5 best songs) – please don’t send music files
2) Link to your website(s)
3) Your tour/performance history
4) Your stage set up (a clear description or stage plot is acceptable)

And if you have any of the below, feel free to send them as well (not mandatory though):
1) Links to any performance footage (doesn’t have to be pro quality, but quality enough so we get a good idea of what you look/sound like on stage) – please don’t send video files
2) Any media recognition or accomplishments you wish to share

Now the rules:
1) Acts have to be from the Greater Vancouver area
2) Acts cannot be signed to a record label
3) All Ages Welcome!
4) Please only submit your act once. Upon submitting to the above e-mail address, you will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating it has been received (if you can’t find the e-mail, please check your spam/junk folder before trying again). If you spam us, your act will be disqualified.

And remember, the contest starts December 5 at 9:00am PT, so we will not be reviewing any submissions sent prior to that date and time. The contest closes December 9 at 9:00pm PT, after which we will be reviewing the submissions personally and will pick a winner which will be announced on this website on December 15.

Best of luck to all of the contestants!
